Cottonwood Canyon is near Kanab and the Escalante
Grand Staircase National Monument in southern Utah.
The drive takes some
intenstinal fortitude, as it is
a long way off the main road
on a rutted track twisting in and around endless tiny hills and escarpments, in what one resident dryly called "lots of wide-open spaces." I mean,
there is NOTHING out there...until you come across
this canyon. But the canyon
was beautiful in the bright sunlight, and a worthy goal. These formations are very
typical of the Utah
landscape.
